Marine Anemometer Applications

When selecting a marine anemometer it is important that the chosen marine anemometer will provide accurate and reliable wind data throughout the changing harsh environments encountered in the marine environment.

The Gill WindObserverII Anemometer has been specifically designed for use as a marine anemometer, for wide-ranging applications such as ship dynamic positioning systems, helideck monitoring systems and data buoys.

The Gill WindObserver provides optional NMEA 0183 output that will be compatible with most ship systems and may be provided with a Gill WindDisplay, if required.

The Gill WindObserver has been fully tested and is in service with many of the largest manufacturers of ship systems. The WindObserver has successfully deployed as part of replacement programmes for conventional cup and vane and propeller anemometers. Mechanical propeller anemometers on the market require repair or calibration between 6 and 12 months from installation. They give no warning of damage or wear of bearings, which may result in inaccurate wind data. The Gill WindObserver transmits as standard a quality status code, which confirms that the unit is operating within normal parameters.

The unique Gill ultrasonic transducers ensure continuous operation in some of the most extreme weather conditions. With a 10 year MTBF the WindObserver is a true fit and forget solution to wind measurement on ships.
