The EH12 ignition housing offers a shielded enclosure for the GS8 and GS12 igniters, also from Gill Instruments. This ignition system provides highly accurate and extremely powerful inductive ignition, which when tailored with the Gill range of ignition coils, produces spark durations well in excess of any CDI ignition system. This power and accuracy enable the GS8 and 12 series to control normally aspirated or turbo-charged engines, running on natural gas, biogas, LPG and CNG in either lean burn or Stoichiometric air/fuel ratios. The enclosure provides header type connectors to enable quick and simple installation. Designed to be user-programmable via the Windows® GUI, the series provide extensive flexibility. With fully-programmable speed mapping and load mapping curves, in addition to configurable controlled engine shut-down, you can expect to see improved engine efficiency, lower exhaust emissions, reduced engine maintenance and decreased engine operating costs. With the ability to be configured to accept timing information from OEM timing disks and sensors, reducing engine set-up and development times considerably, helping to ensure that costs are kept to a minimum |

The GS8/12 series ignition units are designed to operate in conjunction with the Gill display unit. The Gill display unit is available as a remote unit within a shielded protective enclosure. Available in two variants, for control panel or surface mounting. This unit offers users comprehensive display and control functions and features a four-line display in conjunction with a sealed keypad. |

Optional advanced spark diagnostics |
Available as an optional extra on the GS8 and 12 range of ignition modules, Advanced Spark Diagnostics allows the user to monitor the condition of the high-tension voltage supplied to the spark plugs. This facility does not require the use of special coils and any Gill inductive coils will provide this feature.
With this technology it is now possible to monitor the health of the HT leads and the spark plugs on an engine with up to 12 cylinders and output an error condition when the measured value falls outside the set limits.
One cylinder per engine cycle is measured, providing real-time engine condition data, which can be viewed using our advanced PC based Spark Monitor software, which provides tabular data, or Gill Spark View software, which displays the spark traces graphically. Spark diagnostics is also
available in a tabular format on the optional display.
Easy to use, and cost effective, this technology can enable users to remotely monitor engine condition, and allow them to adjust their service intervals, as and when spark plugs need changing out, reducing the frequency of these visits. |

The EH12 housing contains either a GS8 or GS12 igniter, input signals and outputs for up to 12 coils (24 coils can be fired in two coil per cylinder configurations). All inputs and outputs are accessed into the ignition enclosure via sealed glands. Timing information is obtained from a number of pick up options. The igniters will provide accurate timing from a single pickup. In this configuration the system can utilise factory fitted camshaft timing discs or a Gill supplied timing disc which can be driven from the camshaft or the crankshaft, this can be mounted on the engine or enclosed in a separate optional flange mounted unit positioned in standard engine recesses where fitted. In a three-pick configuration the optional pick up interface unit (PIU) is required. In this configuration the position of the engine crankshaft is determined through the use of two magnetic (inductive) pick-ups. The first senses the starting ring gear teeth or holes drilled in the flywheel, allowing precise determination of the crankshaft angular position in real time. The second magnetic pick up generates a once per crankshaft revolution reset pulse. Four-cycle/non wasted spark engines also require a Hall effect pick up on the camshaft to determine the compression cycle of the engine. As each type of engine configuration (config file) is unique this config file is stored in memory within the igniter. This config file is determined from initial information supplied by the operator/manufacturer and is then downloaded into the igniters memory using Gill windows® based ‘Sparkz’ software which is available free of charge. More advanced Spark diagnostic software is available which can also be loaded into the ignition module. A display module is also available as an option. |
